iRobot Braava Jet M6

Floor cleaning is one of the most evaluated product categories in the Home Accessories Institute Home Care and Cleaning Lab, with specialists testing dozens of the latest steam mops, regular mops, vacuums in all forms, and more each year. Throughout the year, we examine new models as innovative features such as self-emptying bases and robot models created with pet owners in mind are added to the category.

When we test any wet floor cleaning instrument, we look at how well it picks up dried stains (such as sticky jelly and coffee dribbles) on floor panels in our Cleaning Lab. All robot mops that also vacuum are subjected to our robot vacuum evaluations. To assess the risk for floor damage, we also consider how simple the device is to use and maintain and how much water it leaves behind on wood, vinyl, and tile floors. The robot mops listed below were chosen based on our testing experience and a thorough investigation of product information, videos, online consumer evaluations, and company information.

You’ll discover more information about how we evaluate robot mops in our Lab at the end of this article and everything you need to know to buy the best robot mop. 7 Best Robot Mops of 2023, Tested by Cleaning Professionals

PROS

CONS

Robot height: 4.15 inches.
Mopping pad type: Reusable pads.
Dry cleaning mode: Vacuuming.
Battery runtime: 210 minutes.
Notable features: Washes and dries mopping pads, recharges, resumes, stores multiple maps in-app, virtual no-go zones, zone cleaning, increased suction when on the carpet.

Dreametech’s line of robot vacuums and mops has performed admirably in our laboratory tests for numerous years. This vacuum/mop combo received a spot in the previous year’s Cleaning and Organizing Awards and was one of the first models we evaluated that dries the mop pads after cleaning.

The charging base is large but not intrusive in the corner of the room, and it houses clean and dirty water tanks large enough to keep water for numerous cleaning sessions. After cleaning, the robot returns to its base and uses hot air to wash and dry the mop pads. We were disappointed it did not automatically dump the dustbin into the base for its pricing.

When we tried it at home, our expert found the app simple to use and useful for keeping track of where the robot was, how far it was in the cleaning session, and whether it became stuck anyplace. The app also allows you to schedule cleaning sessions to vacuum, mop, or both simultaneously. The W10 can run for over 3 hours on a single charge, though a cleaning session will likely take less time. In less than an hour, it completed two bedrooms, a living room, and a kitchen (including halls).

While the maker claims that it is safe for hardwood floors, we found that it left the floors a little damper than we would have wanted, but its two pads were cleansed thoroughly with only one pass-over mess.

Robot height: 3.8 inches.
Mopping pad type: Reusable pads.
Dry cleaning mode: Vacuuming.

Notable features: Cleans and dries mopping pads after a cleaning session, voice control, recharge, and resume, remote camera viewing through the app, schedule cleaning, adjusts cleaning path according to obstacles and room sensed, auto-boost suction on carpet.

Consider Dreametech’s L10S Ultra robot vacuum and mop if you continually mop your floors and gather pet hair. Our model is a more feature-rich version of the L10 that we previously featured in our guide, and it performed just as well in our lab tests as the original.

It received the second-highest overall maneuverability score out of ten self-emptying competitors. The robot comes with a bottle of the brand’s floor-cleaning solution. It stores easily inside the charging base and automatically dispenses the appropriate amount onto the mopping pads before each cleaning task. Unlike many other models we’ve examined, we witnessed substantial lightening of sticky stains with only one pass with this robot. The L10S Ultra, like previous models from the manufacturer, does not require manual dustbins or mopping pad removal. When a cleaning activity is completed, the base automatically empties the bin and begins washing and drying the pads.

When the L10S Ultra detected a carpet, it immediately lifted the mopping pad to prevent wetting it. Once on the carpet, they were virtually completely free of pet hair. No pet hair remained in the dustbin or clogged the brush roll after self-emptying. It excelled throughout our ease-of-use testing for its simple software, which allows users to schedule cleaning activities, change water and suction settings, and view a live stream from the robot’s onboard camera while it cleans. Despite being one of the most costly robots we’ve evaluated, we believe its performance and features make it worthwhile.

BEST ROBOT MOP AND VACUUM COMBO FOR HARDWOOD FLOORS

ECOVACS DEEBOT X1 OMNI Robot Vacuum and Mop

7 Best Robot Mops of 2023, Tested by Cleaning Professionals

PROS

CONS

Robot height: 4.1 inches.
Mopping pad type: Reusable mopping pads.
Dry cleaning mode: Vacuuming.
Battery runtime: Up to 260 minutes.
Notable features: Base washes, mopping pads, recharge and resume, schedule cleaning, virtual no-go zones, zone cleaning, and the camera can be viewed through the app.

We’ve been using the Ecovacs X1 Omni at home for over a year and are still satisfied with its performance. It has cleaned under couches, mattresses, and dining room table legs without getting stuck.

There were a few instances where it appeared to go past little particles of debris rather than scooping them up, but these were rare and could be avoided by instructing the robot to make a second pass for deeper cleaning of our test floors. It mopped nicely in a home with hardwood floors throughout the living room and bedrooms without unnecessarily soaking the floors or leaving streaks behind. Tiled kitchen floors were more difficult, with some old water marks lingering even after a second thorough cleaning pass.

Its charging base functions as both a clean water reservoir and an extra-large dust bin, and it automatically washes the mopping pads when the robot has finished cleaning. Unlike other robot mops, you do not need to own an Amazon or Google Assistant device to use voice instructions. Simply saying “OK, Yiko” wakes up the X1 Omni, albeit it sometimes replies even when we aren’t talking.

The Omni also communicates with you during cleaning, notifying you when the mopping pads need to be cleaned and alerting you when it is finished. You may manage the suction force, the amount of water sprayed on the mopping pads, whether you want the robot to do one or two cleaning passes, and designate no-go zones and cleaning schedules via the app.

4

BEST ROBOT MOP AND VACUUM COMBO FOR SMALL SPACES

ECOVACS DEEBOT T9+ Robot Vacuum and Mop

NOW 38% OFF

7 Best Robot Mops of 2023, Tested by Cleaning Professionals

PROS

CONS

Robot height: 3.7 inches.
Mopping pad type: Disposable cleaning cloths.
Dry cleaning mode: Vacuuming.
Battery runtime: 180 minutes.
Notable features: Recharge and resume, 3D mapping, schedule cleaning, auto-boost suction when more debris detected, air freshener built-in.

Ecovacs’ T9+ had the best mopping performance of the six models we tested during our most recent robot mop test for our 2023 Best Cleaning and Organizing Awards. After just one pass, sticky chocolate syrup, lipstick, and dry jelly stains were erased from our test floors.

The vibrating motor it employs to scrub the floors was quite powerful without compromising its suction capacity, rocking the entire robot as it navigated our obstacle course. Though it struggled a little with the debris we sprinkled into small corners, the rest of our test floors were virtually completely debris-free. The T9+ also avoided modest obstacles, such as a pair of shoes and a small toy designed to resemble dog excrement. If you want this robot to clean your carpets and rugs at home, you must remove the mopping pads because it will avoid carpets while they are installed.

Like most other app-connected robot mops, you can use the app to regulate the suction force and amount of water poured onto the mopping pads and schedule cleanings. This model made one of the most accurate maps of our obstacle course.

You may use the app to see, update, and identify regions and see your furniture in 2D or 3D. This is a wonderful model for small houses because it can complete a modest cleaning assignment faster than any of the other models we tested, taking just under 8 minutes to clear up our obstacle course. The charging base’s compact footprint also saves space and can keep up to 60 days’ worth of garbage-like bases twice its size. The air freshener pod you may insert into the robot to release a nice, light aroma as it moves through your home is unique to this model.

BEST ROBOT MOP AND VACUUM COMBO FOR DEEP CLEANING

roborock S7 MaxV Ultra Robot Vacuum and Mop

NOW 16% OFF

7 Best Robot Mops of 2023, Tested by Cleaning Professionals

PROS

CONS

Robot height: 4.0 inches.
Mopping pad type: Reusable vibrawash mop cloth.
Dry cleaning mode: Vacuuming.
Battery runtime: Up to 180 minutes.
Notable features: Washes mopping cloth, recharge and resume, schedule cleaning, virtual no-go zones, zone cleaning, carpet detection.

We previously had an older Roborock model in our guide, but it has been replaced by the manufacturer’s more automated, feature-packed model.

It’s a self-emptying robot vacuum and mop that uses sonic vibration technology to clean floors. It wowed us with its superb floor coverage in our tests, going back to cover the corners of a room it missed on the initial run. When it detects carpets, it automatically raises the mop pads and changes the suction and mopping intensity based on the cleaned room. There’s also no need to mark rooms in the app because the S7 can tell what room it is based on the furnishings it sees when mapping. It did an excellent job of avoiding major pieces of furniture but needed help with items such as a pair of slippers in our test area.

The big charging base has three tanks: one for clean water, one for dirty water, and one for dry debris. It automatically refills the robot’s water tank, washes the mopping cloth, and retains detritus from many sessions, making the all-important robot clean-up a little easier.

The base could be more appealing. However, if you are okay with manually filling the water tank and emptying the dust bin, you can get the S7 MaxV robot vacuum and mop without the self-emptying base. You may adjust the suction, select different cleaning modes, designate no-mop zones, track the robot’s cleaning route, and set cleaning schedules for different rooms in your home using the Roborock app.

BEST VALUE ROBOT MOP

SAMSUNG Jetbot Mop

NOW 19% OFF

7 Best Robot Mops of 2023, Tested by Cleaning Professionals

PROS

CONS

Robot height: 5.5 inches.
Mopping pad type: Reusable microfiber pads.
Dry cleaning mode: N/A.
Battery runtime: 100 minutes.
Notable features: Can be used to clean walls, two water tanks, carpet and furniture detection, and stairs detection.

The Jetbot Robot Mop from Samsung is notable for its ability to clean floors and walls. The device’s top handle makes it easier to hold and scrub vertical surfaces such as tiles in the kitchen and bathroom.

We tried this model and continue to use it at home to easily clean vinyl kitchen sheet flooring. Our experts were thrilled with the 100-minute runtime and dual water tanks, which allowed them to clean a vinyl kitchen floor, ceramic tile entry, and hallway without replenishing or pausing to recharge. In our tests, the reusable wet cleaning and buffing pads were machine washable and looked brand new after washing, even after cleaning up messy stain-causing spills.

There’s no need to link the Jetbot mop to an app because it has a remote that lets you choose between eight cleaning modes, including edge cleaning, intensive cleaning, and auto. The Jetbot’s thin form makes it easy to store, and while it has the sophisticated self-emptying bases of some of the other robot mops we’ve examined, it does include a drip tray for storing. It can detect when it’s getting too close to furniture or carpeting, but you’ll have to block off rooms physically if you don’t want it to clean and manually turn it off when it’s done.

BEST OVERALL ROBOT MOP

iRobot Braava Jet M6

NOW 22% OFF

7 Best Robot Mops of 2023, Tested by Cleaning Professionals

PROS

CONS

Robot height: 3.5 inches.
Mopping pad type: Disposable pads and reusable microfiber pads.
Dry cleaning mode: Dry-sweeping.
Battery runtime: Up to 150 minutes.
Notable features: Virtual keep-out zones, voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant, charge and resume, can be programmed to mop after Roomba vacuums.

We’ve tested various iRobot models, including the latest j7+ Roomba Combo vacuum and mop and an early version of this mopping device, and they’ve always performed admirably in our lab tests.

The Braava Jet M6 robot mop complements the brand’s extensive line of robot vacuums. Online reviewers praise its quiet and effective cleaning. We chose this updated version of an old favorite as our best overall robot mop option based on extremely positive online consumer evaluations and our experts’ familiarity with the brand.

The Braava’s square form allows it to reach deep into corners and mop along baseboards. When used with warm water, it can more easily dislodge grime and stains, leaving floors cleaner. When the battery needs to be charged or the water reservoir must be refilled, Braava returns to its charging dock and resumes cleaning when ready. It can clean up to 1,000 square feet on a single charge, and the mopping pads are simple to remove.

It learns the most effective method to clean your home’s rooms using Smart Mapping technology. The mapping accuracy of the Braava Jet M6 improves with the frequency of cleaning, and you can decide which rooms to clean, schedule cleanings when you are away from home, and have it perform additional runs for a deeper clean via the app. It can also be linked to Alexa or Google Assistant to recognize voice instructions.

If you already have a Roomba S, J, I, or 900 series vacuum, connect it to this Braava to mop the floors after the Roomba has vacuumed. It may also sweep dry with the help of disposable electrostatic pads. The M6 will not dispense water onto your floors while the sweeping pads are mounted.

How we test robot mops

2002, the Home Accessories Institute Cleaning Lab tested its first robot vacuum. Since then, we’ve put hundreds of robot vacuums and mops through rigorous performance and ease-of-use tests in our Lab. We examined 11 self-emptying robot vacuums and six combined vacuum mops for our Best Cleaning and Organizing Awards in 2023. We test robot vacuums in our Lab as frequently as we test full-size vacuums, and we have data from dozens of consumer testers who have tested models for us.

In our robot mop test, we assess how successfully each gadget cleans sticky stains from various floor panels in our Lab. We employ testing procedures specified by the International Electrotechnical Commission and ASTM International for evaluating robot vacuums, whether they have vacuuming or sweeping capabilities.

These dry-cleaning tests include straight-line debris removal from bare floors and carpets and a custom-made two-room obstacle course. We assess how much debris each robot picks up, how long it takes to clean, and how long each battery lasts. We also assess each robot’s ability to clean under low furniture, around tight corners, and transition from one type of flooring to another. Models that develop maps of the space they clean are likewise evaluated for the level of detail in their maps.

We score each robot mop’s user manual, how easy it is to use the controls and app, initial setup, and how easy it is to remove and clean all elements of the robot mop after use in our ease of use testing.

What to look for when buying a robot mop

Here are some things to consider while selecting the best robot mop for your home.

✔️Dry-sweeping vs. vacuuming: Most robot mops on the market also perform some form of dry cleaning — they either sweep with a dry pad to lift dust or vacuum with suction. Models that double as vacuums must empty a full dust bin after cleaning (unless they also come with a self-emptying base), but models that dry-sweep must discard or wash the sweeping pads after each usage. If your floors are soiled, allowing the gadget to vacuum before setting it to mop will produce better results.

✔️Easy setup and maintenance: The easier it is to charge the robot mop, fill and empty the water tank, remove or replace the cleaning pads, and set it up to clean once or regularly, the better. Models with a self-emptying station that must only be emptied every 30 days or more are the easiest to maintain. Most new models examined in the Cleaning Lab now include a QR code on the package for quicker app setup.

✔️Battery life: Look for models with at least 90 minutes of runtime on a single charge. Most robot mops now recharge and resume cleaning to complete the task if the battery runs low during cleaning. This is a crucial characteristic to look for if you have a large property.

✔️Floor surface safety: If your home has predominantly wood floors, ensure the robot mop you choose is equipped to clean that surface. The greatest brush rolls are soft, fluffy, or robot mops with no brush rolls. Look for a type that lets you modify and manage the amount of water that flows into the pads when wet mopping wood surfaces. All robotic mops are suitable for use on vinyl and tile floors.

✔️Floor and carpet sensors: To avoid wetting your carpets, use a robot mop to distinguish between carpet and hard surfaces. When a carpet is recognized, several models can lift the mopping pads a few millimeters from the floor’s surface, but more may be needed for homes with thick, plush carpets. Look for robot mops with mapping functions that allow you to clean only specific areas or with no-go zone strips that you can manually set up around your thick carpets.

✔️App integration: Most new robot mops and vacuums may be coupled with an app that allows you to save maps of your home, create cleaning schedules, choose cleaning modes, and monitor what your robot is up to while you’re away. While not all robots require an app, they enhance the value of utilizing a robot mop. If you want to avoid utilizing an app, seek a model with a power and dock button right on the robot or charging base and a remote control.

Are robot mops worth it?

Yes, especially for families with dogs, small children, or anyone who wishes to keep their floors clean with little time or effort. Most robot mops can crawl under low furniture and clean into corners and along edges, but they function best if the space is straightened out before you start the mop. Robot mops, like their robot vacuum counterparts, can become stuck on little impediments and become confused in spaces filled with furniture.

For devices that only mop, you must first vacuum or sweep and still manually clean up large spills. Robot mops may struggle with very heavy soil, but they save time and help keep dirt from accumulating, resulting in fewer labor- and time-intensive deep cleanings.

How to maintain a robot mop

Robot mops, like robot vacuums, require routine maintenance to keep them in good operating order. Similar chores include eliminating hair tangles from the brush roll and wiping sensors for improved navigation.

However, because some versions also use water to clean, there is an additional step to ensure that the robot’s pads or mopping cloths do not become wet and trapped under the device for extended periods. Bacteria thrive in moist, dark environments, so if your robot mop doesn’t dry its mopping pads automatically, remove them, wash them (if the manufacturer says it’s safe to do so), and lay them flat to dry in between mopping sessions to prevent mildew from growing on them.

If your robot mop is app-connected, ensure you’re also getting the most recent software updates for the model via the app. These updates frequently improve a robot’s navigation and object recognition abilities. Most user manuals have comprehensive instructions for keeping robots in good working order, and it is always better to follow those instructions before attempting anything else.

Can you put vinegar in a robot mop?

Unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer, you should not use floor cleaners, vinegar, or hot water in your robot mop. Doing so may void the guarantee on your model. Some manufacturers, including Shark, Bissell, and Narwal, produce floor cleaners designed for their robot mops. We only advocate utilizing floor cleaners in your robot mop’s water tank in this manner.
