As a professional cleaner, this is why I like Dyson’s V15 Detect cordless stick vacuum

It’s no secret that Dyson vacuums have a cachet that many other brands aspire to. I knew the brand had something special from the very first model I evaluated in the Home Accessories Institute Cleaning Lab many years ago. Dyson invested extensively in technology and was the first to create cyclonic suction in a vacuum’s cup and filter to better separate heavy and tiny material for reduced clogging and better pick-up. And now, many more brands use this technique.

Another Dyson innovation, the V15 Detect Cordless Vacuum Cleaner, debuted and has now been expanded to other models. Continue reading to learn more about the laser beam fluffy roller attachment and why I believe it will revolutionize vacuuming.

Because of longer-lasting batteries, several cleaning modes, and attachments that address specific needs such as pet hair removal or gentle cleaning of delicate hardwood floors, the finest stick vacuum cleaners are car vacuums, Cordless Stick Vacuums, Vacuum Cleaners, Robot Mops, Robot Vacuums, Cordless Handheld Vacuums,Best Vacuums on Amazon, cheap vacuum cleaners quickly becoming the go-to pick for whole-home cleaning. When we test stick vacuums, we look at not just how well they clean different surfaces but also how easy they are to operate. Who needs a vacuum if you have to fight with it to remove and replace the dust cup, change the attachments, or convert it to a handheld vacuum?

Here’s why I believe the Dyson V15 Detect is a worthy investment in all aspects.

Why I like it

✔️ Great cleaning

I first put the Dyson V15 Detect through its paces when it was nominated for a Home Accessoris Cleaning Award. We instantly realized we had a winner. No matter what surface I was cleaning, the V15 Detect had strong suction and excellent pick-up. While I enjoy its Auto setting, which detects airflow and adjusts suction to the surface being cleaned, I’m a control freak when it comes to cleaning and prefer to be able to override preset settings to choose what I think is ideal for what I require. With its Eco and Max modes, this vacuum allows me to do just that: clean light throw rugs without sucking them in and remove more dirt from deeper-pile carpets at the settings I prefer. Just keep in mind that increasing the power will reduce the run time, which is true for any battery-powered Hoover cleaner.

✔️ Easy to use

The V15 Detect, like all Dyson cordless vacuums, is simple to convert to a handheld vacuum, and the attachments are simple to take on and off as needed. Because it does not stand on its own (boo! ), wall installation is the best option for storage. I like devices that require charging while still fully built because the battery is detachable. Removing, emptying, cleaning, and replacing the dust cup is quick and convenient, albeit unlike many others we’ve tested, the filter only partially dismantles for cleaning.

✔️ Standout features

First and foremost, the laser beam on this vacuum’s fluffy roller head astounded me. For cleaning my hardwood floors, I prefer a dedicated fluffy roller attachment to the combo nozzles that many vacuums now include. The V15 Detect takes this roller to the next level by illuminating dirt that is unseen in regular light with a laser beam that illuminates the floor in front of the nozzle. I couldn’t believe how much dust and particles were lurking in the nooks of my stair treads until this light shone on them! It felt good to be able to catch them and know I was receiving a thorough cleaning.

I really enjoy the vacuum’s clear, easy-to-read LCD on the back. It displayed the cleaning mode, the remaining battery life and run time and even the type and size of particles I was picking up. That was perhaps more than I needed (or wanted!) to know, but it was wonderful to have proof that the Hoover was working properly. The button on the display felt a little small at first, but it was a minor inconvenience that I quickly got used to.

Finally, like many Dyson stick vacuums, it comes with a revolutionary hair-screw-tool attachment that works excellent for removing pet and other hair from upholstery, vehicle seats, and other surfaces without tangling. It’s ideal for pet owners or anyone who wants to deep clean furniture, mattresses, or other above-the-floor materials.

How the V15 Detect compares to the V12 Detect

The V12 Detect Slim is worth considering: It is smaller and lighter than the V15 Detect, and it provides comparable performance at a slightly reduced price. In our most recent test, it, too, demonstrated the incredible suction seen on all Dyson vacuums and aced our performance tests. It weighs only about five pounds, making it an excellent choice for individuals who wish to avoid heavy lifting or prefer a thinner profile hoover.

The V12, unlike the V15, has a separate on/off button, which we enjoy. No more holding down a trigger to keep it running, which many people — including myself — find tedious.

It works well for weight loss management since there are so many 0-calorie, fiber-rich, and nutrient-dense foods to choose from.

How we test stick vacuum cleaners

In our most recent category test of 23 stick vacuums, we collected and analyzed over 500 data points to determine the highest overall scorers and recommend the best models.

7 Best Cordless Stick Vacuums, Testing by Cleaning Experts

We use  ASTM International standard test methods to analyze any Hoover, including stick vacuums. As a member of the F11 Vacuum Cleaner Committee of this volunteer standards-making organization, I meet twice a year with engineers and industry experts to discuss, create, and update the vacuum cleaner testing procedures we all use. My Good Housekeeping position on this committee includes ensuring that these guidelines are relevant to how daily consumers use vacuum cleaners.

Our stick vacuum testing includes determining how well each vacuum takes up heavy debris and gritty soil from bare floors, as well as pet hair from carpets. We test how well it cleans along edges and time how long the battery lasts. We also look at any unique features and how simple each model is to operate. We may also ask consumer comments to supplement our Lab findings.

The takeaway: Is the Dyson V15 Detect worth it?

In a nutshell, sure! It’s a powerful hoover with a slew of unique and useful additions. And, because Dyson is always innovating and incorporating many of the V15 Detect’s features into newer models, you may be able to get it at a discount – particularly during special occasions like Black Friday or Amazon Prime Day. If your flooring is largely wood, tile, or other hard surfaces, or if you have a combination of carpets and bare floors, the Dyson V15 Detect Cordless Vacuum Cleaner is a good buy.
